Wade Roush at MIT <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Technology Review<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/Infotech\/18195\/\" title=\"New Portal to Second Life: Your Phone\" target=\"_blank\">writes<\/a> that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comverse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Comverse<\/a> has developed a Java-based client for cell phones with internet connections.<\/p>\n<p>It makes sense.  More people have cell phones and more people are getting phones with internet connections. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educause.edu\/ir\/library\/pdf\/ers0607\/ECM0607.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">ECAR reports<\/a> that student ownership of smart phones went from 1.1 percent in 2005 to 7.5 percent in 2006.  It&#8217;s a small percentage but let&#8217;s watch that growth rate next year.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously SL on a smart phone is limited.  You can&#8217;t see much, but you can interact with others. You&#8217;ll be able to send messages to friends via SMS, MMS or IM.<\/p>\n<p>And both SL and smart phones will get better in time.   It&#8217;s another link point to an immersive world.<\/p>\n<p>Now I just need to find out if  Java comes with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windowsmobile\/\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Mobile 5.<\/a>   \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is good, because I was getting worried that I wasn&#8217;t logged into Second Life enough.
